Migraine research

Medical Research

The Migraine Trust funds and promotes research towards a greater understanding of migraine and its underlying mechanisms. The goals of research include improved management and treatment, but the ultimate aim is for a cure.

Migraine is giving up its secrets to our research efforts and this will benefit our patients now and their children in the future.

Commitment

Since 1965 The Migraine Trust's commitment to research has resulted in the funding of over 138 medical research projects into migraine, providing researchers and clinicians with a far greater understanding of the mechanics of this debilitating condition. The Trust is supporting researchers around the world in their efforts to uncover the cause of migraine. Projects funded by The Migraine Trust aim to:

  • examine the biology of the condition
  • analyse how changes in the brain actually cause migraine
  • improve the management and treatment of migraine

The Migraine Trust is a member of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC).

The Migraine Trust Studentships and Research Awards

Further details of new studentships and research awards will be posted on the website as soon as we have them.

European Headache and Migraine Trust International Congress

The Migraine Trust and the European Headache Federation have joined forces to co-chair the European Headache and Migraine Trust International Congress (EHMTIC). The first EHMTIC took place in London 2008 and the second in Nice, 2010.

The next EHMTIC will take in London in September 2012.  EHMTIC brings together the world’s leading experts on migraine and headache to share the latest research findings and to discuss current trends in treatment and prevention.  EHMTIC takes place biennially to enhance international researchers scientific knowledge and promote a better understanding of migraine through debate and exchange of ideas.
