Patient Advocacy

The Issue

Migraine is widely underdiagnosed and under treated, in both children and adults. One third of
sufferers will experience significant disability as a result of their migraines at some stage of their lives.

The Migraine Trust believes that migraine sufferers should have fair access to available treatment where there is strong clinical evidence to support the use of such treatment in the prevention and management of migraines. Where this is the case, and a patient has sound recommendation from a suitably qualified health professional for the treatment, The Migraine Trust supports that individual’s right to access such treatment in the UK.

How can the service help?

The Advocacy Service can provide you with information and ‘advocacy tools’ (template letters, forms, statements etc.) to enable you to understand your options and to advocate for yourself or another migraine sufferer. If you require independent support in relation to your migraines, access to treatment and the UK healthcare system the Advocacy Service may be able to help. To make a referral please fill out our online referral form and we will contact you to discuss your suitability. Children under the age of 16 must be referred by a parent/legal guardian.

Please note, due to limited capacity we are unable to provide representation for every case. Representation by the service will typically involve letter/email writing and phone calls on your behalf however each case will be considered on an individual basis. This is NOT an advice service and the Advocacy Service is not able to make decisions on behalf of migraine sufferers. If our service is unsuitable for you we will endeavour to signpost you to an organisation which can support you. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.Disclaimer.
