Types of migraine
There are different types of migraine, but not everyone will have ‘typical’ migraine so please view this information as a guide only
Migraine without aura
70-90% of people with migraine experience this type
Migraine with aura
A common type of migraine featuring additional neurological symptoms
Chronic migraine
If you experience headache on more than 15 days per month you may have chronic migraine
Menstrual migraine
A specific condition where the timing of attacks is linked to the menstrual cycle
Hemiplegic migraine
A rare condition involving temporary weakness on one side of the body
Migraine with brainstem aura
Unusual and rare subtype, formerly known as basilar-type migraine
Vestibular migraine
Vestibular migraine or migraine with prominent vertigo
Abdominal migraine
Most often seen in children, a syndrome that may be associated with migraine
Cyclical vomiting syndrome
A syndrome that may be associated with migraine
Headache associated with exercise
Primary exercise headache and Cardiac cephalalgia
