Professor James Lance
He transformed the lives of migraine patients worldwide
We are very sad at the passing of Professor James Lance, who did so much to help reduce the misery of migraine.
He transformed the lives of migraine patients worldwide through his influence on neurology and how it is practised.
In particular, his research on the physiology of migraine, on serotonin and its effects on blood vessels and brain pathways involved in pain. This research led to the discovery of the triptans, a groundbreaking development in the treatment of migraine.
